The University of Iowa (or University of Iowa) is a public research university in Iowa City. It was established in 1847, and is the oldest university of the state. It is broken into 12 colleges that offer more then 200 study areas as well as seven professional degrees. Students can pursue a wide variety of jobs while at the University of Iowa.

The University of Iowa offers a number of part-time, hourly student jobs. These positions can be found both on and off campus. Students can work upto 40 hours per day during the summer. Part-time hourly positions do not require students register for summer class. Employers need to be aware of Iowa's laws regarding student employment. Students can only work for twenty hours each academic year under the law. Students can only work for 40 hours during the Thanksgiving, winter, spring and summer vacations.

Hourly limits

Student jobs at the University of Iowa are subject to the hourly work limits that are set forth by State law. Students are generally limited to 20 hours per week during the school years and 40 hours during breaks. If a student is working more than forty hours in a given week, they may be subject to overtime charges. These costs are not covered by Work Study dollars. Hourly work limits are also determined by the amount of Work-Study dollars received each week.


According to the University of Iowa's Handbook for New Students, students should not work more than 20 hours per week. This is a lot of time and students who work more may not be able to study well. Employers are encouraged to post student job openings on Handshake, provided they adhere to the state law.

Form I-9 required

For students, it might be a concern that the University of Iowa requires Form I-9 certification. These are important documents that are used to verify the identity of an employee and determine whether or not they are employed on the University's campus. These forms are required under law to protect the university's reputation from fraudulent claims of employment. You can always ask the school's human resource office if you have any questions about Form I-9.

For students who receive a salary for their work, they must complete Form I-9 within three days of their start date. Students are required to submit the Form I-9 along with any supporting documents such as a passport and birth certificate. Employers are encouraged not to submit more than one application for student employment. Interviews will take place in a confidential environment.

Payroll biweekly

If you are employed by the University of Iowa, your paycheck is issued on a biweekly schedule. Biweekly pay employees for work done within the last calendar month. Except for semester appointments that require you to work more hours, you will be paid your paycheck the week after. Pay adjustments are also available in biweekly pay plans.
